Vision & Values

The Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology envisions being the leading Research and Innovation platform for Sustainable Nanotechnology in Asia. Thereby transforming Sri Lanka into a strong Nanotechnology-focused nation.
SLINTEC promotes a culture that is boundryless and research friendly with a passion for Creativity and Teamwork. This is achieved by promoting values of intellectual prowess, integrity and humility. SLINTEC also strives to inspire an innovative mindset centered on sustainability and an attitude for learning, sharing and mentoring. SLINTEC has committed itself to uphold the United Nations Global Compact Principles. SLINTEC sets the benchmark for responsible research through strict endorsement of Sustainable Projects.
The SLINTEC Story
SLINTEC and NANCO were initiated as private institutions in a historical partnership between the government and corporate sector to fill the much required gap for research & development within the country. Established in 2008, SLINTEC is a joint venture between the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan corporate giants Brandix, Dialog, Hayleys, Loadstar and MAS.
Distinctive to SLINTEC is its strict policy of sustainability-centered innovation. Through various means, such as the application of a sustainability-filter upon all its projects, SLINTEC strives to create a no-unsustainable development environment. SLINTEC combines this with its Vision & Values to ensure the long-term sustainability of its nano-products as well as the safety of its laboratory facility for its occupants.
Located within the Biyagama Export Promotion Zone, SLINTEC’s laboratories are equipped with some of the best Nanotechnology research equipment available in the region. Including an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), XRD, FT-IR, RAMAN, Optical and IR Microscopy, UV-VIS-NIR and Nano-Sizing and Particle Size Analyzers. Some of these equipment, such as the SEM, require special training and dexterity in order to operate.
SLINTEC houses a staff of internationally qualified PhD holders in multiple fields of science, engineering and corporate leaders of multinational recognition, all of whom strive as a collective unit to achieve SLINTEC’s vision, and to repay their motherland. Research conducted by the SLINTEC team is focused on the integration of Nano-Scale materials and devices into complex Nano-systems that will elevate the commercial competitiveness of Sri Lankan products and services.
SLINTEC differentiates itself from other local R&D institutes by tapping into the Global Diaspora of Sri Lankan intellectuals through its Global Resource Base. Through its human and technical resources, SLINTEC is setup to become the regional hub for Nanotechnology Research and Intellectual Property Rights Acquisition.
